Chocolate filled balls or Bomba is a a sweet Romanian chocolate dessert. On my wedding my mother-in-law made these as a dessert and they were so tasty. It is a very simple Romanian recipe which can be made with an alcoholic filling or without.

Filled Chocolate Balls (Bomba)

Filled Chocolate Balls, which are filled with either Turkish Delight, raisins or cherries marinated in alcohol.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 500 g fine grated butter biscuits
  • 150 g fine grated walnuts
  • 200 g melted butter
  • 3 tablespoon dark cacao powder
  • 2 tablespoon rum essence
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Sirop

  • 200 ml water
  • 250 g sugar

Filling

  • 50 g Raisins
  • 50 g Turkish Delight
  • 50 g cherries

Garnish

  • 100 g coconut flakes

Instructions

  1. Grind your butter biscuits and walnut to a fine powder.
  2. Add your water and sugar to a pot and boil fro about 10 minutes or until the syrup has gotten a thicker consistency.
  3. Add your melted butter, cocoa powder, rum essence and syrup to your mix.
  4. Mix with a spoon or fork, unless you have the courage to work it with your hands! Dough will be hot from the syrup.
  5. Take a full teaspoon of dough and add your favorite filling into it. Usual one small piece of your choice will fit.
  6. Close the ball and press it firmly together and form it to a ball.
  7. Roll your chocolate ball into the coconut flakes or press the flakes on them.
  8. Refrigerate them for at least 1 hour to firm up before serving.
