Farmer Stew (Bauerneintopf)

Farmer Stew

Delicious, comforting farmer stew. It has deeps flavors from the sweet ground pepper and the flavorful liquid soaks into the potatoes. This dish has complexity and will warm your belly when you are cold or want something comforting.

Ingredients

  • 800g potatoes
  • 3 red bell peppers
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 500 g ground beef/porc
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 450 ml beef broth
  • 400 ml tomato chunks
  • 2 tablespoons sweet ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon thyme

Instructions

  1. Dice your onions into fine cubes.
  2. Cut your bell peppers into medium sized squares. Don’t cut them too small or they will disintegrate into the stew. You want them to be visible and give you a color contrast.
  3. Peel your potatoes and cut them into bite sized cubes.
  4. Heat up your pot and add some vegetable oil and add your onion and bell pepper to it. Sear them for about 7-8 minutes until your onions become translucent. Put the content into a bowl.
  5. Add a little oil to the pot again and brown your meat in to. once browned add your seasoning and tomato paste to it. Brown for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add your onions, , bell peppers and potatoes back into the pot.
  7. Add your minces garlic, tomato chunks and broth to the stew.
  8. Cook for 30 minutes on medium heat and during the cooking process you will need to stir from time to time or the bottom will burn.
  9. Serve your meal.

Notes

You can add sour cream to your serving of farmer stew for some creaminess.
